The Vidder's Choice Awards & The Broken Heart Awards

Rules below subject to change based on how many vids are entered, etc.
Here is how this contest works:
1. You must be a vidder yourself to nominate a vid.
2. You may only nominate one vid per month (up to 3 total) - and it cannot be one of your own. This contest is all about vidders' admiration for each other's work. (Vids nominated in November will become part of the Winter Season Vidder's Choice Awards)
3. Only dark and/or tragic vids will be accepted.
4. Vids nominated here can be submitted to the other contests at this site at for any Season even if they win - this is a completely separate contest from the others.
5. Make sure that the vid you nominate is available online from the time you submit it until the following Monday. If I can't download it, it will not qualify.
6. I will personally be screening the video to verify that it qualifies as a tragedy and then contacting the vidder to ask if they accept the nomination. Your nomination will NOT be anonymous.
7. If the vid does not qualify OR the vidder turns down the nomination, I will inform you of the situation, and you may then nominate another vid if there is still time to do so.
8. Nomination Award images will be created for all qualified & accepted nominations and posted here for pick up the following Sun/Mon after a nomination has been accepted. It is an honor to be nominated by your peers in this community. A nomination here is an award within itself! :-)
9. Please don't play the "I'll strach your back if you scratch mine," game with your friends. Recipricol nominations will be treated with suspicion.
10. All qualifying nomations will be hosted by me for the duration of the Season for easy viewing and voting. I will be uploading a copy of the vid to my site as long as the nominee agrees to let me store it for them. If they do not wish for me to do this, I will inform you and let you know so that you can nominate another vid.
11. Please return here to cast your vote during the election period, which will be October 17th through November 12th. You may NOT vote for your own vid.
12. As long as you are a vidder (even if you have not participated here yet through the nomination process) you may vote for your favorite vids amoung the following categories:

The High Tragedy Award
Only qualifying Finalists, and vids submitted through the Vidder’s Choice Awards are eligible for the High Tragedy Award (the most prestigious honor at this site). This vid represents tragedy equistely. This is the best video submitted to this contest during this season. The High Tragedy Award will be presented on November 20/21st.
The Tragedy Awards
This is the true heart of this awards site. This category honors the various themes of tragedy to be found in fan vids as follows:
Unrequited - Love that is not returned
Triangle - A painful love triangle
Grave - Character death, non-romantic
The End - Giving up, giving in, suicidal tendencies, & submission
Darkness - A sick and twisted theme or story
Life Shattering - Horrible events that irrevocably change the character
Heart Wrenching - Breaking up
Blood Boils - Family based angst
Sacrifice - Tragic sacrifice
Dangerous Games - Betrayal, jealousy, lies
All Alone - Missing someone, loneliness
Haunted - Racked with guilt / haunted by the past
Agony - Cruelty, torture
Love Dies - Death of a romantic partner
Misery’s Company - A messed up romantic relationship
Insanity - Insane characters or situations - scary insane
Pure Evil - Portrayal of a character’s dark side
Despair - In general, life just sucks (hopelessness)
Finalists for each category can be found on the Awards page by clicking on the Finalist button. The winners in each of these categories will be announced November 13/14th.
The awards for Specific Shows, Characters, & Lovers. These three types of awards are intertwined in a fairly complex manner:
Character
Best representation of a tragic character from a particular show. Will be announced October 22/23rd for specific characters and October 30/31 for generally well done characters from particular shows.
Lovers
Best representation of romantic tragedy from a particular show. Will be announced October 22/23rd for specific couples and October 30/31 for generally well done tragic romance from particular shows.
Note - the same Finalist vid may qualify for both the Character & the Lovers category.
Show
On November 6/7 Show Awards will be given. This is represents the best tragedy from a particular show. Unfamiliar shows are lumped together and one will be chosen from that group. Also, there is an "other" group for shows that have had less than 3 videos submitted for them. Non-series movies (ie - not Star Wars, not LOTR) have their own categories as well. Two Seasonal Awards: The Broken Heart Challenges The theme of the 2005 Autumnal Season is Fall from Grace and the Tragic Pairing of this Season is Angel & Buffy. All vids entered into a Seasonal Award are also eligible to be Finalists in the Character, Lovers, Show, and Tragedy Awards as well. I shall place them accordingly. If you participate in the Seasonal Awards, you will be able to enter a total of 4 vids toThe Broken Heart Awards versus the normal limit of just 3. You may enter for either the Autumnal Award or the Fall From Grace Award, but not both. Here are the details:
Only Fall From Grace Entrants have been Received
I have received 3 vids dealing with a character's Fall from Grace. Winners of the Seasonal Awards will be presented with their awards on October 22nd/23rd.
Random Awards
The Teardrop Awards
This is a special award and will be presented weekly to any and all vids, graphics, or fics that can actually bring a tear to my eye. Vids have the greatest chance of succeeding at this since I am very visually inclined. (This includes vids nominated for the Vidder’s Choice Awards). I'm a tough-cookie with a high threshold for tragedy - these awards may be difficult to come by. Good Luck!
Tragedy of the Month
Near the end of September, the 25th/26th, I will choose a vid that has been submitted to The Broken Heart Awards OR to the Vidder’s Choice Awards that I’m just Jonesing on! You know, the vid that gets stuck in your head like the broken record? That’s what this award is all about. It will receive top billing on my Finalists page, when it is awarded. The following month’s Tragedy of the Month will be presented near the end of October - the 23rd/24th.
Technical & Technique Awards
On Novermber 13th/14th I will be presenting awards to honor specific skills in video editing as follows:
Best Editing
Best use of Special Effects
Most Original
Best AU Tragedy
Only videos entered into The Broken Heart Tragedy Awards qualify for these honors.

Eligibility for next Season
All non-winning vids may be submitted to The Broken Heart Awards next season. It is strongly encouraged that you do so if you were a Finalist who did not place this time.
If you have won a Broken Heart Tragedy Award of any kind except for Seasonal, you may not resubmit your vids for future awards. The Seasonal Awards are their own breed. Even a vid has won that contest (as long as it hasn't won any Tragic, Character, Lovers, Show, or Technical/Technique Awards) it is still eligble for the next Season. [The Vidder’s Choice Awards are treated the exact same way because they are also different - you may enter a winning Vidder’s Choice vid into the following Season's Tragedy Awards]. The Seaonal Awards are always a “fresh plate” - winning vids of any category can apply for the next round’s Seasonal Awards as long as they fit the theme, even if it won a Seasonal Award previously. For example, I have one vid that fits the theme of both fall and winter elements - falling leaves and snow flakes. If I could enter my own contest, it would be eligible twice! ;-)
How awards will be processed
If a category has 3-4 Finalists there will be 1 winner
If a category has 5-9 Finalists there will be 1 winner & 1 runner up
If a category has 10-19 Finalists there will a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
If a category has more than 20 Finalists, there will be a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th place.
(Some adjustments may be made to this scheme depending upon the responses I get)
